Guidelines

Hello and welcome to the YouView Community

This community is the place for our viewers to ask for help, share information and take part in discussions. To ensure that the YouView community is an enjoyable, helpful and friendly place for all of our users, we have a set of guidelines for all members to abide by.

Respect the YouView Community

Be an upstanding community member

Sharing your knowledge, opinions and experience is invaluable.

When you see a great question or answer, give it a thumbs up to recognise the contribution. When someone has answered your question or helped you resolve a problem a simple ‘Thank you’ goes along way

Communication

We like to LOL too but please bear in mind that text speak and acronyms aren’t always a great medium for conversation. Tone of voice (sarcasm, humour and so on) doesn’t always translate how it was intended. Correct spelling and grammar help people find your posts, and you’ll get better support when others can clearly make out what you’re asking.

Don’t cross the line

Offensive content

Use basic common sense, courtesy and respect other members at all times. Posts and content which are considered to be disruptive, provocative, and offensive or appear to be attacking another user are not only unkind, but are also not acceptable on the YouView community.

Spam and advertisements

Our community is not the place to advertise yours or someone else’s business, there are plenty of other ways and means to do this. So attempts to Spam, advertise, repetitively post, promote on profiles or include within signature banners will be politely removed.

Violent, graphic or inappropriate content

There is no need to be shocking, sensational or disrespectful and certainly no reason to post any violence or gore. Attempts to bypass our profanity filters such as using symbols or missing letters to fill in part of a swear word are considered inappropriate and will be swiftly removed. Offensive usernames will also be changed.

Hateful content

We all have thoughts and opinions but respect is the key. We don’t support content that promotes any form of racist, sexist, homophobic, explicit, abusive or otherwise objectionable content. This can be a delicate balancing act, but if the primary purpose is to attack a protected group, the content crosses the line and will be removed.

Personal Information

We all want privacy and all need to respect it. Please don’t post yours or someone else’s telephone numbers, addresses, full postcodes, email addresses or any other personal information that could identify a person

Harmful/Dangerous content

We all need to stay safe so don’t post content that encourages others to do things that might cause them to get hurt or otherwise considered dangerous for others to see.

Only post content that is your own or you have permission to use and don’t post content or interact with other members of the community in a way that infringes the law, intellectual property or other proprietary rights of others’.

How do I report a post?

If a situation arises reporting a post is quick and simple and only our moderators will see your report, it will be invisible to the rest of the community.

  • To report a post, all you need to do is click the Flag icon under the offending post and then select ‘Report’. Please fill in the text box as necessary to explain why you have reported the post as this will help us when dealing with the report
  • Posts which you feel are spam can be marked as such under the Flag header
  • Please do not tell the user you’re reporting that you are doing so as this can cause arguments to break out
  • If someone is sending you inappropriate private messages, please take screenshots and email them to community@youview.com

YouView reserves the right to update our Community Guidelines at any time.
